Sweet sound of success

Researchers from the Western Australian Telecommunications Research Institute have engaged staff at several sites to test a revolutionary new product that filters out background noise while
enhancing the human voice.

Known as Sensear, this device uses a series of tiny microphones which can be incorporated into a hard hat, ear muffs or an ‘in-the-canal’ device. It enables workers to talk to each other without removing theirhearing protection and exposing themselves to risk.

According to WorkSafe WA your hearing is likely to be damaged if you need to raise your voice to be heard by somebody no more than a metre away.

WATRI spokesman Justin Miller said Sensear had been subjected to extensive testing both in the laboratory and on site.“Everywhere we have gone and engaged with industry there has been a tremendous endorsement of this concept and a desire to see the research translated into an end product,” Justin said.
